Metamorphosis, by Ovid, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

The Easton Press (EP) Deluxe Limited Edition (DLE) of Ovid’s Metamorphosis is a beautiful example of how nice a well done fascimile can be.  This is one of the most impressive EP DLE’s, probably only matched in beauty and scale by their Kelmscott Chaucer, and in sheer delight to flip through only by their marvelous and under-appreciated A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It is a large 2 … Continue reading Metamorphosis, by Ovid, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

Night, by Elie Wiesel, Illustrations by David Olére, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition (2012)

Easton Press (EP) continues to come out with Deluxe Limited Editions (DLE) at a pretty decent rate.  One of the latest is Night by Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel (b.1928).  Night recalls Wiesel’s experience at Auschwitz and Buchenwald in 1944–1945, toward the end of the Second World War. This DLE is illustrated by another Holocaust survivor, artist David Olére (1902-1985). Night rightly can be morbid, as the reality was sickeningly so. Wiesel’s mother and … Continue reading Night, by Elie Wiesel, Illustrations by David Olére, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition (2012)

Gulliver’s Travels, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

One of Easton Presses latest Deluxe Limited Editions (DLE) is a facsimile of the 1840 edition of Gulliver’s Travels, famous for the hundreds of fantastic wood engravings by J.J. Grandville.   I thought I would post some pictures and initial thoughts on this edition quickly, since it is still available.  Those thinking about getting this edition should probably move pretty quickly, as the edition is … Continue reading Gulliver’s Travels, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

One of my favorite of Easton Press’s Deluxe Limited Editions (DLE’s)  is their facsimile of William Heath Robinson’s 1914 illustrated edition of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  Though only limited to 250 copies, for whatever reason this is one that has not sold out, despite being available for well over a year. It includes 12 full-color plates by William Heath Robinson, each hand-mounted on gold … Continue reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

Slaughterhouse-Five, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

Easton Press‘s latest Deluxe Limited Edition is Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five, signed by Kurt Vonnegut.    This is considered Vonnegut’s most influential work, and is generally considered one of the great novels of the twentieth century.  Like so much great literature, themes of free will and fatalism are predominant.  Because the book seems to feel that most of humanity is insignificant and powerless, people largely do … Continue reading Slaughterhouse-Five, Easton Press Deluxe Limited Edition

Easton Press’s Kelmscott Chaucer

As a long time fan and subscriber to Easton Press, I was thrilled to find out last year that they were starting to print deluxe limited editions (DLE), usually facsimiles of famous editions in the history of book printing.  Their first effort really set the bar and raised the excitement level of those into fine limited editions.  Easton’s DLE of The Kelmscott Press’s The Works … Continue reading Easton Press’s Kelmscott Chaucer
