The Sermon on the Mount, Grabhorn Press (1924); also Limited Editions Club (1977)

The Sermon on the Mount is the first of the Five Discourses of Matthew in the Gospel of Matthew. Containing the Beatitudes and the Lord’s Prayer, the Sermon on the Mount is the longest, most well-known, and important of the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels. It forms the basis of the ethics of Christianity with its message providing guidance towards the expected conduct of its believers. The Sermon on the Mount contains some of the most quoted words in all history, … Continue reading The Sermon on the Mount, Grabhorn Press (1924); also Limited Editions Club (1977)

Poetry of Sappho, Arion Press (2011)

I first reviewed Poetry of Sappho from Arion Press soon after it’s release, and proceeded to update the review once or twice thereafter as the book further “sank in” to my consciousness. Now that I have finally spent a full night reading the book cover to cover, while imbibing on a truly excellent American Syrah, (2007 Alban Vineyards Reva, which you must try!), it has … Continue reading Poetry of Sappho, Arion Press (2011)

Porgy and Bess, libretto by DuBose Heyward, lithographs by Kara Walker, Arion Press (2013)

George Gershwin described Porgy & Bess as an “American folk … Continue reading Porgy and Bess, libretto by DuBose Heyward, lithographs by Kara Walker, Arion Press (2013)

The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins, Arion Press (2012)

Following up on their fantastic Thomas Jefferson’s Paris Walks release of a few months back, … Continue reading The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins, Arion Press (2012)

{Ed. Note: This article, and the pictures, are from Books and Vines contributor DlphcOracl.} One of the very pleasant aspects of being a collector of any sort is to stumble upon something that is simply wonderful, very affordable, and obviously under-priced in the market.  I recently purchased a book that fits that description and is an edition that you simply should not pass on should you find one … Continue reading Pearl, by the Pearl Poet, translated by John F. ‘Thomas Jefferson’s Paris Walks’, text by Diana Ketcham, photographs by Michael Kenna, Arion Press (2012)

{Ed. Note: I have not read this new edition yet, so will add to this review my thoughts on the text after reading. However, I wanted to get some first thoughts and visuals of the book posted immediately, as I think fans of fine photography, Thomas Jefferson, Paris, Michael Kenna, and those who just love beautifully done books should get an early peek so to … Continue reading ‘Thomas Jefferson’s Paris Walks’, text by Diana Ketcham, photographs by Michael Kenna, Arion Press (2012)

It is a typographic tour de force as you will see below. I believe Arion Press has one copy in new condition available to sell. This is an important work and should go quickly.
